The Video Game Industry Revenue Is expected to grow anyhere from $49-$66 billion in 2011.

The Online Gaming Revenue is expecteted to grow to $11 billion in 2011.

Currently Leading Video game company (Activision), and leading online game company (Blizzard) are planning to Merge. Activision Blizzard will be the name of the new company. Being the two top companies in the Industry it will just form a big competitor. The merger was considered by Activision due to World of Warcraft, an online game by Blizzard. Activision as a result of this will be a leading online gaming competitor. (Gallagher, 2007)

The company that might feel the hurt of this merger is EA. However EA is making its own move by placing a bid for Take-two. Take two is responsible for Grand theft auto (the most anticipated franchise game this year).

If you ask me I predict that eventually the video game industry will be engulfed by online gaming.

Very soon one of the requirements of a video game will be whether it can be played online.

Console gaming revenue will grow as a result of this. As of now all the Leading consoles are online capable. The top selling games can be played online (via different consoles or PC's).

The next thing to do is that the Video Game industry will follow in the Music industry footsteps. Video games will be provided as downloads, as oppose to cd's which will reduce production cost immensely for game publishers. But in order for the industry to be protected game downloads will only be available via consoles.
